Our Devotional
Gary was a special twelve year old boy who used to live in a foster home. From the day he could remember, living from home to home was the normal thing for him. His parents where both drug addicts who lived on the streets, but have changed since Jesus came into their hearts. It has been seven years since Gary’s father and mother have been clean and living a productive life. For the past two years his father has been serving the Lord as a deacon and his mother as a V.B.S leader.
After years of being away from his parents, Gary was back with them and loving it. But there was a new problem for Gary, going to church. Because of Gary unique background, he had never gone to church. One thing he did love was pathfinders. This was an activity by the church to teach boys and girls about life and prepare them to be leaders in their communities and heaven. Listening to his master guide was fun until one day the subject of repentance and faith came up. It was more agreeable to Gary’s natural heart, to seek for Jesus with out the true spirit of repentance and faith.
Gary’s experience is not a new thing, infact; there are thousands of people who go to church only happy with a feel good religion that doesn’t require a commitment. Without the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we are only church goers, and this is one of the signs of the last days, (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
There are many people like Gary who are worshiping God according to their feeling, and not the God who says give me your feelings, emotions, and mind. True repentance is turning from what you love, to what God love’s for you.
Today there is a death like suppier which Satan has around the neck of so many would be sons and daughters of God. This is what is called a predetermine mind which is supported by superstition and error. If left unchecked, this can lead to confusion, depression, emptiness, frustration, guilt, hopelessness, hurt, loneliness, weariness, and even rebellion.
When Satan finds that he can not prevent the children of God from investigating the Bible, and accepting the truth, he then forces erroneous doctrines upon them, he try’s to intimidate them by a lack of self-confidence, threatening and persecution, (Romans 8:15-25 / Acts 4:20-21 / 2 Timothy 3:12) The Holy Spirit is longing for all to have the character of God, which Satan is trying to quench.
Today the heavenly light is shining upon the earth like never before, revealing the character of God, and making manifest the malignity of the arch deceiver, (Revelation 18:1) That which Satan has led men to do in the past, he will if possible lead them to do again. The early church was deceived by the enemy of God and man, and apostasy was brought into the ranks of those who professed to love God; and today, unless the people of God awake out of sleep, they will be taken unawares by the devices of Satan.
Among those who claim to believe in the near coming of the Savior, how many are back-slidden, how many have lost their first love, how many are living in a spirit of indifference and death stupor. May God reveal to you, like Gary, your true state of mind, and the perils that are before us without Him! It is time to arouse from our spiritual slumber, and trim our lamps, and be found watching for the Bridegroom when he shall return from the wedding, (Matthew 25:1-13)
